Duration – Visitors and tourists

You can visit New Zealand as a genuine tourist for up to 9 months in an 18-month period.

  1. The 18-month period is calculated backwards from the last day you intend to be in New Zealand.
  2. If the last day you’ll be here is 1 December, then your 18-month period will begin on 1 June of the year before.

New Zealand Work Visa Requirements

  6. Proof of good character (completed character questionnaire, Police Certificates from your country of origin and any country where you’ve lived at least five years since turning 17)
  7. Proof of being bonafide.

New Zealand Spouse Visa

Spouse visa requirements

To qualify for a New Zealand spouse / marriage visa you must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. You and your spouse must be 18 years old or over.
  2. You must have met each other and be legally married - this is to prevent arranged marriages.
  1. You must intend to live together permanently.
  2. You must have enough money to support yourselves (and any dependents) without claiming public funds.
  3. Your sponsoring partner must earn more than £18,600 per year or have enough savings to be able to sponsor you. The minimum financial requirement is higher if they are also sponsoring dependent children.
  4. You must have suitable accommodation for you, your spouse and any dependents.
  5. You must satisfy the English language requirements.

How long does a spouse visa last?

If applying from overseas, a spouse visa is initially issued for 33 months. If you are applying from within the New Zealand a spouse visa is issued for a period of 30 months.
